A small hint…

I figured today I’ll give a small hint into LORE’s world.

I’ve always been interested in expansive worlds – despite never quite resonating with high-fantasy settings – where our world, with all of its idiosyncrasies, was only a small tiny part of the universe. And you could argue that remains true for reality anyways – the universe is vast and we are small.

But the idea that there were others, among us, with us, was fascinating.

LORE has many inspirations of course – there are many pieces of media that I consumed early enough to become foundational to me. I’ll give you some now and the ways they’ve effected me in my writing journey.

1st among them I must say was BloodRayne. The game came into my life in such a mundane way, but its impact cannot be overstated. The world within was dark, humans remnants only – surviving bastions of life – among a societal collapse of supernaturals – spider-like creatures the likes of the Maraisreq and werewolf-esque bat creatures older than old, vampires were really more a general populace to be honest and the finale? The giant demon, ever growing as you struggle to fight on two fronts. It all settled in my psyche. And I haven’t even mentioned the true horrors of this franchise. It is the world and its people that most inspired – it’s creature among the average human, our hero a half-vampire half-human shunned by both sides with a attitude to match.

2nd, and equally as important to my interests, was Stargate SG-1. This was a space adventure, intrepid travelers who got dragged into endless misfortunes. A journey through wormholes to distant worlds, our team woefully underprepared for anything they were soon to run across but always trying their best, trying to do what they thought was the right thing, but all flawed in their own ways. The sci-fi setting, grounded by making it a governmental secret operation only added to the appeal and the villains! Oh, the villains were truly the cherry on top of an already delicious cake. Inspired by mythology and each with their own motivations – even if those were just pettiness or a pre-programmed need to ever expand.

And somehow, among all of these, always, music. Interwoven across my lifespan so far – and unlikely to ever be torn free of it – playing in and out of rhythm. Music as backdrop to my joy, skittering over my skin like starbursts and submerging me deep within in my sorrow. A gentle breeze or a booming scream. There is a song or a chorus or a line for just about anything I learned and I embraced it.

All this helped me find my voice and it is with that voice that the world of LORE could then, slowly, piece by very brittle piece be set down into its own foundation – and breathe a life of its own.

And this is where I leave you for now…
